i voted no way! it just really screwed the game up! the eras were all mixed up (i mean come on! the only faction they really changed was angmar; everything else was the same! like this: aragorn wasn't even born when the witchking had his kingdom!) the only good that's come of it is that RJ has made a really great mod off of it!

Angmar was added, and some really cool special units for Every Other faction, I would have liked it if there was a middle answer for the poll, not just Yes or No

oh well...

No way LOTR BFME ROTWK was the biggest mistake of all LOTR games
The Knights of Dol Amroth the Zealots the Noldor Warrior and the Nazgul are cool but the others NO WAY
Why dont Ea Make an expansion Where There is a Rohan Harad Rhun Umbar or Hobbit Fraction That Would Be Cool

Rotwk in and of itself didn't change much. It was a way for EA to extend the profits from Bfme2 by adding small pieces, though some of those small pieces were really good (although Rogash's animation is 'square' at best). Gave the Angmar faction, some additional units such as Noldor Warriors and the riders along with the Deathbringers and all that, as well as the unplayable Arnor faction that, assuming you add it in, initially it's buggy and unbalanced (some heroes having 1,000 health and others having like a trillion lol). Thanks for sites like LotR Files, Rotwk is still fun to play. Besides that you can basically play the same stuff with bfme2 as you can with rotwk.

I loved Elvenstar Mod for Bfme1 and Bfme2, and it's unfortunate that team seems to have dissolved last I read. Bfme1 might have a return if RA gets released and RJ's mod is great.

I wouldn't say Rotwk was a mistake, it's just that the big mistake was basically only adding one playable faction. The Bfme2 campaign was more fun, though Rotwk campaign was still pretty fun. Bfme2 was just way better, more variety over Bfme1.

Elvenstar Mod for Bfme1 was really great, the various bases that were added and such along with factions such as Elves and Goblins.

Point being, Bfme1, 2, and Rotwk really still have a lot of potential. It's only been like four years since the first was released, actually less. Bfme2 was released in March '06 and late October '06 saw Rotwk being released. There are a lot of games out there that have been around a lot longer that still have a big following, though still fading. It's kinda sad to see very little on the forums about it. The last post was like 7 days ago or something.

A lot of good files are here, and a lot of fun to be had with the mods and maps here. Arnor Strikes Back is one of my favorites, along with Gladiator: Rise of Morgoth, Open Water, and so on. With most games, I looked forward to mods more so than maps, but when I moved to Bfme series, I always look for maps here first and when a mod comes out, it's always good to play it no matter how small or big it is, because it's something different from the ordinary same old tune.

Keep on coming with the files folks, the staff are efficient here (though unpaid they make up a part of the integrity of Filefront), just that not as many files are coming in. And if not for those who made the mods and released them, even producing patches themselves (where EA fails to and when they do it's a small one). Frustration over EA not releasing patches was a big issue and still is, but if you like the game it's worth checking into mods and if there's something the game lacks, rant about it and you might just give someone the idea they've been looking for, for a good mod to do themselves or to find those who can and make a team. The ST: Armada community has a new project called the "Armada Community Mod" and it's an interesting concept. Since there's a community for this game series too, perhaps some sort of community mod team could be developed, it could be as simple as releasing small mini-mods, maps, texture sets, or anything up to big mods putting together all of these things. If everyone puts what they have together, and I know there are a lot of good animators around on Revora and here, then a lot can really happen.

Some of the Rotwk mods out there now have teams that are very small, yet they are able to make something superior to Rotwk in just six months or a year.

If the community effort is enough, it might give EA an idea (to make some more money obviously) and make a First Age expansion pack (although it'd be more like the War of the Ring game that did not involve voice actors from the movies). The Hobbit movie will obviously see a rise of games coming out after that, and EA may take up some kind of project with that, who knows? I doubt in seeing the Battle for Middle Earth 3 title - the controversy over that is equal to the controversy over a sequel to Armada 2 coming out anytime soon.

Voice actors for mods involving the First Age could essentially be anyone from the community, and so a community mod would probably go well.
